The Royal Arch Sutherland is a Masonic lodge located in the Sutherland Shire of Sydney, Australia. Founded in 1873, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious lodges in Australia. The lodge has a long and proud history, having been involved in many social and charitable activities since its inception. Its members have taken part in a variety of initiatives to promote Freemasonry throughout Australia, including educational and service projects. The Royal Arch Sutherland provides a unique opportunity for members to meet and network with other Freemasons from various backgrounds. It also organizes regular lectures and workshops for members to learn more about Freemasonry and its ideals. The history of Royal Arch Sutherland dates back to the 19th century when it was established in 1834 by the Rev. John Sutherland. Initially, it was a private Masonic chapter and was named the Order of Royal Arch Masons of Sutherland. It was part of a larger Masonic organization which included several other lodges in the area. The purpose of the chapter was to provide fellowship and charitable activities to its members.
Over time, Royal Arch Sutherland began to grow and expand its reach, eventually becoming an independent body with its own governing rules and regulations. In 1867, it became an affiliated member of the Grand Lodge of Scotland and in 1877, it received its own Royal Charter from Queen Victoria which allowed it to function independently from other Masonic organizations.
