The modern version of the logo that we know today was created in 1717 when four lodges in London merged into one organization – this organization later became known as the Grand Lodge of England. From then on, all members of Freemasonry were required to wear an emblem on their clothing or jewelry that showed they were a member. This emblem was based on the original design of the square and compass and featured a square, compass, letter “G,” and other symbols associated with Freemasonry.
